Day 1. Arrival to international Tbilisi airport. Drive to Tbilisi, check-in hotel “Bomound Garden”,
Day 2. Late Breakfast, starting city tour at 12.00, Sites to visit: Metekhi Church (13th c) - cross-domed church. The grave of St. Shushaniki; Narikala Fortress - the 4th c. main citadel of the city; Sulphur baths - a favorite place of Tbilisi citizens and foreign guests; Sioni Cathedral (6th-7thc) - St. Nino’s Cross is preserved here. Anchiskhati (6thc) - one of the most ancient basilicas. Georgian Museum of Arts - Ancient icons, cloisonne enamel works, chased icons and jewellery are exhibited in the treasury;lunch time in Tbilisi, drive to Mtskheta town, Svetitskoveli Cathedral (1010-1029) – the most significant illustration of Georgian culture, art, and architecture; Jvari Monastery (6th –7th cc) – masterpiece of the early Medieval Period; dinner in Tbilisi restaurant and overnight.
Day 3. Breakfast, starting tour at 8.30, Drive to Kazbegi 110 km from Tbilisi. Sites to visit: Military Highway - The main transport artery linking Georgia with Russia. The road was named Military by Russian King Alexander I; Ananuri (16th-17th cc) - fortress and monastery with characteristic architectural design of the late medieval times; Kazbegi Village - One of the highest and beautiful villages of the Caucasus; lunch time in Kazbegi, Drive to Gergeti Trinity charch by 4X4 car. Gergeti Trinity church (14th c) - located on the top of the Holy Trinity Mountain 2179 m above the sea level and surrounded by beautiful glaciers, drive to Tbilisi, dinner on the way (testing Georgian Khinkali and Chacha). Day 4. Breakfast, starting tour at 8.30, Sites to visit: David-Gareja (6th c)- a rock-cut monastery complex in a deserted area. The very first monastery was founded by St. David. The complex comprises a dozen cave monasteries, which were cut out of the rock over the centuries; Bodbe Monastery of St. Nino (9th c.) - One of the spiritual centers of Georgia, that holds the tomb of St. Nino; Signagi (nearby to Bodbe) - Royal town of the 18th c. built by King Heraclius II. The city is enclosed by the second longest wall in the world, after only the Great Wall of China; lunch time in Signagi, Tsinandali - One of the oldest wine cellars (19th c.). wine tasting; Drive to Telavi Check-in Hotel "Chateau Mere” and Overnight in Telavi.
Day 5. Sites to visit: Ikalto Academy (12thh c) - the largest center of education in medieval Georgia; Alaverdi (11th c) - the symbol of the blossoming of Georgian culture. It used to be the second highest church among the orthodox churches in the world; lunch time in Telavi, Gremi Archangels’ Church complex was constructed in 1565 and frescoed by 1577. It is a cruciform domed church built chiefly of stone. Its design marries traditional Georgian masonry with a local interpretation of the contemporary Iranian architectural taste. Since 2007, the monuments of Gremi have been proposed for inclusion into the UNESCO World Heritage Sites; The nekresi monastery ensemble includes several structures built in different times. The oldest is a chapel of the small basilica type built in IV century; drive to Hotel, Baking the bread, making churchkhela, Making Khinkali, wine toasting, dinner with life music, free time and overnight in Telavi.
Day 6.Breakfast, starting tour at 8.30,Drive to Lagodekhi, Meeting on Azerbaijan border in Lagodekhi. Border formalities, transport and guide change. Drive to Sheki. Sheki is one of the most famous and ancient places of Azerbaijan. Situated 700 m (2297 ft.) above sea level like an amphitheater surrounded by the mountains and forests of oak trees, this ancient city was long famed as a silk center and an important stop on the Great Silk Route. There is an assumption that the name of the town goes back to the ethnonym of the Saks, who reached the territory of Azerbaijan in the 7th century BC. We’ll start our Sheki tour from visiting the 18th century Khan's summer palace with magnificent frescos and exquisite stained glass work. Sheki History museum is famous with artifacts from several periods. Overnight in Sheki.
Day 7. Sheki/BakuAfter breakfast visit the Albanian church located in Kish village. Legend says that the church was built in 78 AD, but the researchers place it a few centuries later. Then drive to Shamakhy district. Visit the town of Shemakha, Diri Baba Tomb and Yeddi Gumbez. Shemakha was the capital of Shirvan Kingdom for several centuries.Yeddi Gumbaz (The Seven Cupolas) Mausoleum is the burial place for members of the royal families of the Shirvan shahs. Day 8. Baku/GobustanBreakfast. Tour to "Gobustan Excursion on historical-art reserve “Gobustan”, where rock paintings have perfectly remained, barrows and housing objects dated from X-XIII millennial BC to the middle ages. There are certificates of inhabitants of region of an epoch of the Stone Age and the subsequent periods in “Gobustan” - Rock drawings, person parking, gravestone monuments, are concentrated there. Nearby is “Gaval Chalan” - original stone- tambourine, representing flat wise established huge plate. It is possible to hear rhythmic accurate motives by knocking on it. It is considered that these sounds accompanied ritual dances and ceremonies. Visiting of “Gobustan” will transfer you to other world, the world of last mankind and will allow you to feel the atmosphere of thousand – year history of this place.Start exploring Baku. Panorama of the city presented to the height of the mountainous part of a television tower clearly gives an idea of the contrasts and the extent of Baku, the horseshoe bay of Baku. The city is shaped like an amphitheater, descending down to the Caspian Sea. Tour covers the central part of the city showing the most interesting historical and architectural sites.Visiting of "Old Town” or “Inner City”. The territory of “Inner City” - 22 hectares, which represents a small fraction of the total area of Baku (44,000 hectares). However, the concentration of architectural and historical monuments, dictates the need for this excursion into a separate and make this part of Baku, perhaps the most interesting to explore. Day 9. Baku / Apsheron PeninsulaVisiting the temple of the fire worshippers Atashgah and burning mountain *Yanar dag*. Atashgah means the House of Fire, place of fire. The territory of this temple is known for unique nature phenomenon as the burning exits of the natural gas. The temple of fire is of the main places where the ancient supporters of Zoroaster religion worshipped there to the fire. In The museum complex Atashgah you will be told about the life way Zaraustra worshippers and also about the traditions and the customs which they adhered. Excursion to Yanar Dag. You can see here nature phenomenon, incessant burning nature gas on the rock which named to the Yanar Dag reserve the burning rock. As the historians say, maybe this place gave the name *the fire country* to Azerbaijan. Overnight in Baku.
